Q. I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of centerpiece I should get for my wedding. What would you recommend, fresh flowers or candles?

A. "You need to first find out if the venue allows open flames. In some places this is a fire hazard. Also, candles are not usually used for daytime weddings. If you are using candles it is nice to incorporate glass or mirrors with them to add some reflection.
If you are deciding about what type of flowers to use, and you are working within a budget, then it is best to use seasonal flowers. Choose a colour scheme to compliment the season, the time of day, and the room where your wedding will be held. Keep in mind the use of interesting linens and chair covers to enhance your décor.

Q. I'd like to throw an office barbeque for my staff where they can invite their family. What kind of entertainment or games can you suggest that would create a team building atmosphere?

A. You can start by sending out a themed invitation to your staff to get the enthusiasm going. Once at the barbeque, many team building games can be organized such as Mini Olympics, Scavenger Hunts or Survivor Games. These activities keep everyone involved with an element of fun and competition. Of course great food and prizes help to round out the event!

Q. I can't decide on a theme for my son's Bar Mitzvah and it's in 3 months. What do I do?
A. It's important to know that not all parties need themes to be a success. If you would like a theme for your event, consider your child's favourite interests or hobbies, like sports, dance, movie stars, etc.. If they do not have any particular interests then draw ideas from what is topical and trendy or the classics.

Q. My daughter's sweet sixteen is coming up and due to the generation gap in the guests we're disagreeing on what type of music to play. What can we do to please all our guests?

A. One suggestion would be to alternate between a DJ and a band. If you only have one form of entertainment, then you would meet with the DJ or Band Leader and let them know what the age gap is between your guests and he will play alternate sets to please everyone.
Q. I am planning a surprise party and I want to add some fun to the dancing. The DJ plays great music but what else can we do for an extra blast?
A. Choose from a variety of entertainment and activities such as virtual games, casinos, or make your own rock video. Up & Coming Events has many great ideas to add to the fun.
